Teen, friend arrested for allegedly faking Kidn@p to extort ₦200,000 from his father

The Niger State Police Command has arrested two teenagers for allegedly staging a fake kidnap in a failed attempt to extort ₦200,000 from one of their fathers.

The suspects, identified as Kelvin Faga, 15, and Mayowa Ojewuyi, popularly known as "Mayor," 17, were arrested after police investigations revealed that the reported abduction had been orchestrated by the duo.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Wasiu Abiodun, Kelvin left home for church on July 20, 2026, but never returned, prompting his family to report him missing at the 'B' Division Police Station in Suleja.

Abiodun said the following day, Kelvin's family received a phone call demanding a ₦200,000 ransom, with the caller claiming the teenager had been kidnapped.

Police immediately launched an investigation and, acting on credible intelligence, tracked Kelvin to a hotel in Suleja on July 25, where he was found with his alleged accomplice.

During interrogation, the suspects reportedly confessed that they planned the fake abduction to collect ₦200,000 from Kelvin's father and split the money between themselves.

Both teenagers are currently in the custody of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) as investigations continue.

The police said they will be charged to court upon the conclusion of the investigation.
